File Format Competition

Interest in new formats challenging Parquet including Vortex, F3, AnyBlox, discussion of format interoperability problems and WASM decoder approaches

← Back to Databases in 2025: A Year in Review

While the discussion explores the rise of new data storage technologies, a key perspective challenges the classification of Anyblox as a traditional file format. Instead, it is framed as a specialized decoder designed to solve the "MxN problem" by bridging the gap between various formats and processing engines. This highlights a critical distinction in the industry, suggesting that the real innovation may lie in enhancing interoperability rather than simply creating competing storage structures.

Can we even say that Anyblox is a file format? By my understanding of the project it's "just" a decoder for other file formats to solve the MxN problem.
